Puffy and his ladies
Here we have Puffy warming up to his ladies....
Puffy with Shylie (his future wife...!!!!)
Shylie is our little princess: look at those beautiful black eyes, the pink button nose and those curly locks!

"I'm beautiful ~~~~"
"I'm BeAuTiFuL....IT'S TRUE!~~"
When we first got the girls, it’s easy to confuse them with the boys.
This is Jiffy and Shirley
and this is PJ and Shylie. Can you tell who is who?
4 boys and 4 girls
It was very important that we do NOT get them mixed, like if we accidentally put them in the wrong cages theres going to be a lot of offspring.............so everything went on very nicely for a while.
We had the girls in a double cage, Puffy was by himself in a cage on the far left. He could see and smell FOUR ladies right nextdoor which drove him bonkers sometimes, he'd spent the entire afternoon with his face squashed up against the bars, rumbling his butt and making sensual passes at the girls. The girls mostly ignored this little retard (who is by the way, smaller than any one of them) nextdoor swinging his puffy butt all day long....
So Puffy resorted to a different method: biting the bars. Apparently he was CONVINCED he could bite through them and get to the ladies:
On the other side of the room, we have Buggy and PJ living harmoniously. Buggy is the undisputed BOSS.
Then in a slightly smaller cage on the floor, we have Jiffy.
I would say that the girls are definitely thriving: they live in a pack, they have a double cage, they are beautiful and have males all around them wading on their hand and foot! I really feel good for the girls, and also Buggy and PJ. But I was at a loss for Puffy and Jiffy, since they are both on their own in a single cage.
At this point, I decided that Puffy--my favourite boy's quality of life is not satisfactory. He doesn't have a cage mate, he's a loner, and he's developed OCD trying to bite through cage bars...
Finding cc cages here in Hong Kong
I was never satisfied with the caging arrangement. Like I said, I exhausted myself looking for CC cage materials in Hong Kong, failed miserable. So I could only make do with the largest pet store cages I could find. There was also the space limit at home. But if you know me, I am VERY determined when I have my mind set on something, and those pet store cages was only a temporary solution, no way am I going to let me pigs live in there their whole lives! I started searching online again, and decided to take out my savings (and beg my dad for sponsoring) and make a damn cc cage for my pigs if it was the last thing I did! So I measured the space I had, and came up with possible cage designs. I figured I was going to need at LEAST 4 cages: 1 for girls, 1 for Buggy/PJ, 1 for Puffy and 1 for Jiffy.
This is the big cage I planned to build for my girls. I thought a 3/4 cage meauring around 105cm by 140cm should be big enough. There is a second floor for them, which is the kitchen area.
I was prevoiusly very frustrated with all the pee and poopies. I tried to litter train them, but with such a small cage, I think they treated the entire cage as a large toilet-_-''. For this new cage, I'm going to place all food bowls, water bottles and hay racks on the second floor, so hopefully they will do their toilet business while they are eating/drinking. I know that when they munch on hay, their digestive systems kick into action, and they will soon poo poo, so I'm hoping they will keep their play area (1/F) a lot cleaner.
This is the bunk bed cage I designed that will house Buggy and PJ on top, and Puffy in the bottom pen. As for poor Jiffy, I will make a separate CC cage for him, because I cannot stack another cage ontop of this bunk cage, it will be too wobbly.
Again, there is a kitchen area for each cage, and the playing area underneath measures 70cm by 120cm, which is larger than their current 60cm by 100cm cage:) I wish I could make it larger, but that is the max.length of my wall
I got in touch with Vicky, from Piggy Paradise , and she made the following computerized images for me:
This is the 3 x 4 cag she designed for me.
And this is the 2 x 3.5 cage.
She made a slight moderation to the design which I am very happy with.
Now I am waiting for the cage to arrive, when I get their new cage set up, I'll post photos of them in their new heaven house!!
Domestic life for Puffy
When I initially put Puffy and Shylie in together, he was very interested in his larrrrgeee female cagemate's derrier. Let me tell you at this point that our Shylie weighs in at a whopping 1100g (1.1kg) while petite Puffy is a mere 750g. Yeah, just Shylie's ass is twice the size of Puffy's face. I don't know if it is that Shylie feels insulted that we put her in with such a small man..("what is this, a hamster?!") or that Puffy feels a little overwhelmed/intimidated by his BIG WOMAN and is scared to approach her.................. These 2 aren't even on the same floor! If Shylie is on the 1/F, Puffy is on the 2/F, if Shylie decides to hop on for a little view, Puffy will promptly give up his throne and huddle on the first floor....it's rather depressing a site. And then one day we saw Puffy making good use of the stuffed bunny in the cage.
This is a typical demonstration of the undisputed hierarchy in the living quarters:
Puffy waggles over to make friends with Shylie, who SNAPS at Puffy.
"You look nice today.."
"no chance, little man!"
"T'was worth a try..."
Puffy sulks off and tries to find something else to occupy himself with....
This is about the closest Puffy can ever manage to get to Shylie without getting a nip out of his little butt...
This is my baby looking confusedly back at me
"why won't Shylie like me,mommy?"
There's Shylie...and then there's Puffy and his BUNNY
Puffy turned out to be a veryyyy considerate hubby his wife Shylie seemed completely disinterested in having any kind of contact with her man (half her size....) so Puffy found companionship in the stuffed bunny
another side view..
another front view...
"Don't blame me....when women don't want it, they don't want it. YOU know what I'm talking about!"
and of course...the back view
So there you have it, our Puffy, caught smack in the act
The piggies in their NEW CAGE!!!!
The piggies cc cages finally arrived from UK, thanks to Vicky again from Piggyparadise.co.uk . Building the cage was so much harder than I thought...my hands got all blistered and red in the end:(
But once everything is set up, beautiful fleece is put in, fresh pellets, water and veggies are served, with an assortment of cuddly beds and tunnels scattered throughout, piggies are placed. It took them some time to figure out to use the ramp to the second floor, and once they figured it out, they liked to all huddle there and not come down anymore....
At this time, it has been confirmed that Puffy is a self neutered guinea pig and will never have hope of successfully courting any female pigs. Therefore, it is safe to place in additional female pigs...
Puffy now resides with Shylie and Snowy in the large 3 by 4 cc cage.
Puffy is in the corner looking out, Snowy is spread out on the green fluffy pillow on the "middle" floor, and shylie is out of sight, upstairs.
Shylie has established the second floor as her territory, and her territory ONLY. She likes to stand guard at the door and doesn't let anyone through.
This kind of destroyed my original plan that I wanted the second floor to be their kitchen, so all food bowls, water bottles and hay racks are upstairs, while downstairs is the play area. That way, I hope they can keep most of the mess and their pee pee on the second floor, and the first floor will be more clean. But then as Shylie is guarding the entrance to the kitchen, she is starving her other 2 cagemates,, so in the end I reco-ordinated everthing, and left the hayrack upstairs, while all food bowls and water bottles are on the first floor, this forces Shylie to come downstairs whenever she is thirsty, or else, she is quite content to live in a 1 x 3 enclosure forever!!
More photos of their large beautiful cage....
Can you see Puffy? Shylie is on the 1st floor, and Snowy sees the chance to hurry to the 2nd floor for some munchy hay while the 2nd-floor-guard is not around (a very rare chance....)
Here, Puffy is grabbing a poopy!
Shylie is on the orange mat
And can you see Snowy?? She is in the watermelon house!!
Here is Puffy enjoying his "daily bread"
"who needs women when I've got hay?"
Now let's take a look at our bunk bed residents...!!!!
The bunk bed is made of two 2 x 3 cages, each with a 1 x 2 second floor, that is a total of 4 floors, stacked on top of each other. On the top bunk lives my other 2 girls: Shirley and Snoopy. On the bottom bunk resides my other 2 boys: Buggy and PJ.
Here is the girls' cage on the top. Snoopy is huddled in the corner, and I think she ate Shirley!!
Shiiirrlleyy!!! no answer....
Anyway, don't worry about it, we found that she was hiding out in her hidey house, safe and secure.
Other than that, they seem to get along fine. They love their veggies!
and their weaver cuddle cups
Now let's take a look at our lower bunk boys
Here is the bottom bunk housing my 2 boys, Buggy and PJ. They make a bigger mess than the girls do upstairs....my double trouble makers....
My boys especially like to lounge out on the middle floor, even if the hello kitty bedding threaten their image as "macho men"
The boys like to hide in a snuggly spot under the ramp.
But their favourite spot is the middle bunk. Here is PJ
Here is Buggy
And the both of them!
