Changes in their cages!
There have been some additions to the cages lately:D. I wish I could continue to expand their cc cage, since the possiblities are literally endless....but I've already taken up all possible floor space....and the only way I could build, is UP. (typical hong kong........). But then I realized that building up is just going to add more weight to the levels below, and I don't have a grid supporting every section. I don't want the whole thing caving in one day.....Besides, if I built a third level to their cages, it would be so high up, I would not be able to even see what the pigs are up to in the air, not to mention difficulty in cleaning..........
SO, we're going to focus on making some small changes inside their cages. I don't want to put so many things in it'll clutter up the space, since piggies need plenty of floor space to run around and rumble strut in. But anyway....
For Puffy, Shylie and Snowy's cage:
I added in some hammocks, I made these myself:
There he is, suspended!
He figured he's not that far off the ground afterall!
I put him right back on. He was a little annoyed, then confused
Puffy figured theres another way off this thing..
Puffy cozies up to Snowy, who's all settled down for a nappy
Puffy hopes his dashing hairstyle will get Snowy's attention..Snowy looks completely disinterested. See how she hasn't moved a twitch in all three pics?
Oh well, he'll just rest his head on the side of her bed, then
Anyway, I added another hammock somewhere else!! Now before you see where it is, let's just remember what the old cage looks like, okay?
and...here it is!! right on the very inside of the left-side-second-floor. I used to put just a cozy bed there, but the pigs hardly go there to sleep, and I realize it is porbably because they don't feel "shaded" enough. That explains why they always sleep on the first floor, as it is more sheltered.
So now..with a hammock ceiling, the have declared the cozy bed sleep-worthy!
Okay, what is the difference between these two photos?
You guessed it! One of them has a hidden beauty underneath!
"You called me beauty? Yeah I know...."
Shylie, who has always suffered from a slight anxiety problem, now feels especially safe in her new bed! Not to mention she gets a nice breeze coming in from the AC
I also added another platfrom on the second floor!
Remember how much Puffy loves his platform??
yeah...so our baby likes getting chin scritches on his environmentally friednyl green platform! Shylie is under the hammock. She's feeling purply today
"Don't take your hand away, you missed a spot!"
I put the platfrom in just the right place so that piggies can hop right on upon crossing the bridge, or they can go take a swig of water first and then get on from the left. AND, it leads right onto the hammock!
Shylie feels slightly "squashed" underneath. At least it's not the other way around.................
Snowy still prefers to sleep in her corner down on the first floor. it's funny how they always like to sleep on top of these cuddle caves, rather than INSIDE, despite the very obvious opening...............I guess it's too hot these days
See how safe Shylie feels under her hammock?
I have to say...this is the FIRST time I've seen her close her eyes since I've had her for...seven months. She's finally given me her trust,
And just to demonstrate further how lovely our lady is....
Shylie thinks this second floor is almost a home all to itself! She has a platform, fluffy cushions, a safety hammock...and water!
Anyway, I also made a small change to their downstairs living quarters. Remember this part of the cage?
Look at it now! I've made a curtain!
This thing is really awesome. I went to our local furnitre store and they sold these DIY shelves, in their individual parts. There was this "handle", that is the exact same width as our grids, what are the chances!. So I cam home and sewn a "tube" around the top of my fleece, then threaded it onto the metal rack. And Puffy has his very own curtain! The GREAT thing is the it slides right across, just like acurtain!
Now when the pigs want some privacy, they can just go right in, and there's a little room for them. It's really quite cozy in there
For Shirley, Snoopy and Jiffy's cage:
This is what their cage looked like before
and now....!!! no, it's not just the doraemon fleece. It's that circular mini-second floor right there! again, it was another DIY shelf. It's in a "quarter-pie" shape, and I thought it'd fit perfectly in a corner!
Shirley models this new feature in her cage
Woa! Mid jump! I'm so proud of my camera skills
Jiffy and Snoopy appreciate the extra shade it provides, especially with those sunshines hitting in the cage.
Shirley thinks she needs a tan
WOW! I think Shirley should try out for the Piggylympics hurdles event!
For Buggy and PJ's cage!!
And this is Buggy and Pj's cage before. They always liked to snuggle in that "shelf" area on the first floor, see Buggy? But the downside is that their cage receives minimum sunshine, because it's just not at the right angle, and it's also low to the ground so it gets pretty dark down there... I used to think there wasn't any way I could make it any bigger, I hardly have walking room. But..................
TADA! Spot the difference? I especially made it YELLOW so its super eye catching!
PJ appreciates the enlarged floor space very much!
Oh god I am just loving this. Even though it is just 1 grid space bigger, it actually feels a LOT bigger, since it joins up with the original space.
See Buggy and PJ wondering where did their sleeping quarters go?
Exploring the new space..........
PJ doing his usual curiousity stand-up
and the best part about this is that is gets all the sunlight you need!! It's directly underneath the window, and sunlight hits the spot! Before, the light needs to make a 90 degree turn in order to reach the cage, but light travels in a straight line........so our poor cage is forever cast in darkness.............untill NOW!
and then I figured that without a little bit of shading, the pig pairs may be a little shy to fully relax in this area. Pj is super paranoid and there's no way he'd EVER sleep in all that open space. so....I went back out and bought another quarter-pie-shelf! This is just perfect, becasue if I used a grid, It would have shaded the entire grid, but with a quarter circle, it's a great ceiling
and a great place to jump onto! PJ is entirely in mid air right now, lol. These boys can jump quite high!
back down again
This is how far PJ can stretch, right up to the ceiling!
He'll reach the sky one day, I tell ya..
Buggy is more....down-to-earth
Look at all that fluff under the chin! I think he is very happy
Circles in the bed:
Shylie won't settle down till she's made a full circle in her cuddle cup:
Now that's a little lady. Btw, can you see her chin hair is all dyed green? yeah, a very enthusiastic lettuce muncher she is
