On Monday, I spent nearly the entire afternoon cleaning out piggy cages, scrubbing down dried urine on the coroplast, refilling fresh hay, pellets and water. Doing the laundry for dirty fleece, and putting in new houses and beds for the pigs to lounge out in. But 5 hours for all that? What else took so long?
Giving our pigs a bath!
It's really humid and hot these weeks, and although pigs can't sweat as they don't have sweat glands, they do have a fair amount of stink about their butts, especialy my boars. (Not Puffy though, because 1st, he can't officially be considered a "male", and 2nd, he's been perfumized by our pretty ladies). I give my pigs showers monthly, and they have all taken several showers before so at least they know it's not a life and death situation when suspended under a tap with warm water down their backs, but I can't say they were particularly pleased either. Some freaked a little, and tried to twist out of my grasp, so I ended up with plenty of scratch marks on the wrist and even elbow!! But Puffy, and Snowy were especially cooperative and just tried to balance best they could on my arms, awww. Shylies screamed a little, as she is the only screamer in the house. But generally, everyone was very well behaved! *happy nod*
I recently purchased shampoo products from Gorgeous Guineas, and could not wait to try them out on our pampered pigs!! We have Original 4 Oil Shampoo, which includes Lavender, Lemongrass, Tea Tree and Patchouli essential oils. And a special Posh n Go Shampoo sepcially for Puffy, as it is formulated for long-haired piggies, as Pufffy's long silky locks require a conditioning agent, obviously:)
Puffy's enthusiasm to try out his new shampoo is slightly deterred by his last memory of a particularly messy bath....
"to bath, or not to bath? that is the question!"
No Puffy, you get a bath whether you like it or not
"careful! Don't get water in my eyes!"
water on Puffy's tummy. He doesn't even look scared, maybe a little worried though
"are you sure about this?"
Don't worry baby, I have a firm hold on ya. You're gonna be silky smooth after this!
"over soon? I am soaked!"
Puffy ain't too happy about us placing him tummy up in the bowl. He feels a little restrained. Look at his little feet stickin' up!
"hey no dunking, you promised!"
aww....after we lathered him up, he was just a soft soapy sponge hanging onto my arm
looking at the camera mistrustingly...
this is just before we turned the tap back on to rinse him clean. He still has foam all over him, lol. Look at that face...still puffy!
Now the water is turned on, Puffy isn't too eager to be splattered with water again. He looks back at the camera with pleading eyes.
"can we rinse without water this time?" *whimpers*
Now we place our pig on a royalty pillow, Puffy needs some time to get his bearings right....
Okay here he is, sooo cute even when wet! I think he's shrank a few sizes too...
Puffy is obviously not as happy with his look as we are, so he....
SHAKES! rofl, ain't this pic hilarious, everything is blurry except for his little teeth and nose
Gosh, that was alotta water droplets flyin' around....
"I'm still handsome!"
Yes you are looking very sexy right now
wait, he's shakin' again! His front paws are off the ground this time!
"Ima sexy piggy!"
now comes the blow drying....all that luscious locks is gonna take at least a good 20 minutes to fluff dry....
But I should add that Puffy actually loves the blow drying part, he loves all that warm breeze sifting through his hair. No one likes wet hair...it's like wearing wet jeans.
okay here, my brother is laying him down flat so Puffy gets his belly blown dry too! Puffy is the ONLY pig out of our herd that willingly lies belly UP, flat on the bed, to enjoy a full breezy-belly-blowing experience!
See! see!! Lying flat out without us holding him down. Yes! Piggies lie flat on the bed like humans do, too! Look at all those tufts and tufts of curls getting the full blast. Don't worry, we never put the blow dryer on high, ALWAYS low, no matter how long it takes the hair to dry. and remember to dry different spots and not just one spot over and over so as not to burn their piggy skins!!
One feet up! lol
Hi baby....he looks pretty comfy, don't ya think?
oh! He has a visitor! Who's this? Puffy couldn't tell who it was at first because beautiful Shylie is giving off puffs of Lavender/Patchouli scents, lol
Puffy sidles up to sniff her and make sure it's still his woman...
Here is out pretty girl....she looks rather frightened here. I don't think she completely trusts me yet.
aiya! Who is Puffy warming up to in the sunshine??
Shylie feels insulted to be photographed when she's not looking her best. Puffy is wondering why Shylie doesn't return his friendly nudges? I think all the bathing-stress and the fact that Shylie feels uglier than Puffy for the first time, has taken a toll on their relationship...
See how sweet and darling they were, 6 months back?
Shylie is definitely disgruntled. And Puffy is er.....having his vision obstructed
So they both do a good shake! rofl. Shylie's face is in a complete circular whirl
oohh! Puffy's hair is still flyin' out! Shylie is still pissed. She needs to look like a lady. Not like some wet rodent *coughs*
"WHAT did you call me?"
alright, moving on to our other obese female...............This is Snowy with her hair wetted and ready for some gorgeous guinea shampoo!
Sqqueeeeeze, squirt, squirt
omg! what happened! How did she lose all that chub!! Look at that curvy thin waist!!
Snowy waiting to be rinsed off so she can be put back in her cage and there'd better be some fresh parsley waiting for her! I'm not sure what breed Snowy is, but she might have some teddy blood in her. Anyway, her fur is thick and a little rough, and although it's short, it actually takes a looonng time to dry. They seem to clump together......
Looks like our monthly baths having cost our piggies each an eye! Snowy is trying to put on a glare, but doesn't she just look plain cute:P
Snowy is growing grumpier by the second.................
She needs a shake! Shylie screams:
"don't scatter your water on me! I just shook myself dry!!*&(^#@%!!!!"
Snowy obviously can't hear Shylie...
I think we can expect a few extra headbutts from Shylie to Snowy later on today...
Here they are, 80% dried and back in their cages.
And our smart pampered baby picked the best spot for himself! A cuddle bed on the second floor, where he gets the AC and the sunshine coming in from the window!!
"ma! how do I look today? Do I smell like a gentleman? Maybe I'll have another go at courting the ladies..............."
"aiya! Look! my chin hair is all fluffed out! I feel very handsome today!!"
Puffy looking adoringly back at me....................
Puffy tries out a cuddle bed downstairs
changed his mind again! Hopping off..
So he sat in the blue bed for such a short while that I didn't even get time to snap a pic before he's off to somewhere else again!!
I guess getting a bath really energized you?.
Note his one feet is still in the bed, lol, so cute!!
Now everyone is getting ready for a lazy nappy....Puffy demanded I give him a GREEN cushion today, he's feeling environmentally friendly, even his platform gets a pale green cover. Shylie feels like burrowing into the rooting box today, and Snowy likes the blue cuddle bed!
So now our trio all smell like little fluffy-walking-scenty-candles. With Puffy's added "silky smooth" factor, of couse. Everyone is bathed, dried, cuddled, kissed, photographed, fed and now all they want is for us to leave them alone so they get a nappy
